CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital provides a developmental and onboarding Residency Program to help newly licensed Registered Nurses obtain the skills and confidence necessary for providing high quality patient care through evidence-based training and critical thinking alongside our recognized professionals.
Provides support for the Med/Surg RN and Critical Care RN in the following departments:
Utilizes a critical thinking model to enhance the experience of nursing while promoting competency and professionalism in an ongoing positive environment
Involves approximately 4-6 months of Residency Cohort Sessions, 8-12 hours of didactic and skills lab instruction every other week and 60 hours of clinical practice of clinical practice every two weeks
Pairs each participant with selected Residency Coaches with a variety of medical/surgical and Critical Care experiences
Includes weekly feedback sessions and evaluations to assess progress and arrange for additional assistance as needed to ensure that participants will be able to demonstrate competence in basic medical/surgical and critical care skills upon completion of this program
Well-rounded skill set, including Telemetry and other specialty nursing disciplines
General in-service in different equipment and demonstrations
ACLS, PALS, and CPI training
Surgical procedure observation for participants, especially open heart surgery

Job Description: Responsible and accountable for quality nursing care and for a designated group of patients by demonstrating ability to problem solve utilizing the nursing process. Supervises licensed vocational nurses, and nursing assistant, and technicians who are assigned care to a group of patients.
Nursing Residency Requirements
90% attendance, all classes and assessment evaluations required to maintain residency
Must have a current RN license prior to orientation start
Must be a recent new graduate from an accredited nursing school with little or no experience
CPR certified American Heart Association
Ability to accept scheduling/placement designations on Nursing unites determined prior to hire
