The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a Medical Records Technician 1 to maintain medical record information for patients receiving care at the Forensics Services program in St. Peter, Minnesota. The Medical Records Technician 1 position is part of the Health Information Management Services (HIMS) department and works with all internal programs, District Courts, County Human Services, and service providers outside of DHS Direct Care and Treatment programs, as well as patients, families, and the public.
On behalf of Forensics Services, manage and coordinate responses to requests for release of patient information per valid authorizations, court orders, and subpoenas from the medical record ensuring that all data privacy rules, state, and federal regulations and statutes are met.
Provide assistance and answer questions regarding release of information and data privacy to internal and external customers.
Manage data collection of health information statistical data on facility release of information activity.
Manage and coordinate Automated Attendant phone line.
Eligible for certification as an Accredited Record Technician
Experience using Microsoft Office or similar computer application software
Experience working with Electronic Health Record Systems
Medical, legal, and other technical terminology related to HIMS
Understanding of data privacy and HIPAA guidelines to maintain confidentiality and security of patient medical records and private health information
Written and oral communication skills sufficient to engage in communication via email, written documents, and telephone
