SoutheastHEALTH, located in Cape Girardeau, MO, is seeking an experienced physician executive as its Vice President, Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The CMO will provide leadership and be responsible for the hospital-wide professional activities directed at improving the safety, quality, effectiveness and efficiency of patient care. SoutheastHEALTH operates in a mixed physician model: employment, independent and contractual arrangements with St. Louis-based Washington University School of Medicine.
With two hospitals and $357 million in net revenues, SoutheastHEALTH provides a regional system of healthcare services for 150,000 residents throughout southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, western Kentucky and northern Arkansas. It has established itself as a key asset to the residents and businesses of Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County and the surrounding counties, offering a broad range of services and being the most price competitive alternative in the market.
The CMO will play a leading role in critical areas making SoutheastHEALTH the best possible place for physicians to practice and moving the organization towards stellar quality, outcomes and financial performance. The CMO plays a visible, non-voting role on the SoutheastHEALTH Board, educating members on trends affecting physicians, care delivery and quality reporting.
Candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school with board certification and eligibility for licensure in the state of Missouri. The ideal candidate should preferably have an MHA, MBA, or MPH degree or should have attended educational seminars for certification by the American College of Physician Executives. Experience includes a minimum of five years of clinical practice and strong credibility as a clinician and a minimum of five years of leadership experience with demonstrated expertise in administering quality improvement efforts, safety, clinical services and regulatory compliance programs, ideally in a high performing hospital/health system.
Cape Girardeau is a vibrant regional retail and education hub, and candidates should enjoy community visibility and engagement. We seek individuals who are inspiring leaders, team-oriented and results-driven. Our aspiration is to be a CMS Five Star facility, which will require the CMO to work with other leaders, physicians and hospital associates to create a laser focus on systems, processes and performance improvement. The successful candidate will be a leader who holds him/herself and others accountable and leads through influence and authority, when necessary.
