This position is located in the Department of Behavioral Health, Saint Elizabeths Hospital, Office of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The incumbent of the position is responsible for providing guidance, leadership, and direction for all professional nurses and paraprofessional nursing staff in Saint Elizabeths Hospital within the framework of established psychiatric, medical, and administrative policies and procedures. This includes the responsibility for planning, development, implementation, coordination, review, and evaluation of all nursing service and nursing related training programs. The incumbent of the position is also responsible for the Hospital Infection Control Program and the Hospital Workforce Training and Staff Development Program.
The incumbent reports to the Chief Executive Officer in the fulfillment of overall duties and responsivities. As a senior manager, the incumbent independently carries out responsibilities as the chief Nursing Executive for the hospital and keeps key officials informed of options and alternatives. Work is reviewed in terms of progress towards overall goals and objectives and compliance with CMS certification requirements and JCAHO.
Serves as expert manager for Saint Elizabeths Hospital with authority to speak for the CEO on all aspects of the delivery of quality nursing care activities within the Hospital. Provides consultation to the CEO and Senior Clinical Leadership on all aspects of nursing practice, nursing practice, nursing standards, and policies regarding nursing issues.
Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing.
It is desirable that the candidate possess a Master’s Degree (MSN) in Nursing.
Applicant must possess at least One (1) year of the required specialized professional nursing as a Registered Nurse which must be sufficiently related to psychiatric nursing in a hospital setting.
Licensures, Certification and other requirements
Applicants must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse with the District of Columbia.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements, this position requires a wide range of professional experience of which one year must be directly related and equivalent to the next lower grade level.
A wide range of professional experience At least 5 years of clinical and senior administrative management experience is preferred.
Saint Elizabeths Hospital is the District’s public psychiatric facility for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who need intensive inpatient care to support their recovery.
