The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (Jacobs School) at the University at Buffalo (UB) and Kaleida Health invite applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This position also includes the title and duties of Chief of Service, Obstetrics and Gynecology, for the non-for-profit Kaleida Health network and Erie County Medical Center and of President of the UB|MD Obstetrics and Gynecology faculty practice plan.
Founded in 1846, the Jacobs School is a research-intensive, public university. The UB and the Jacobs School are undergoing major transformation, including 2017 openings of a new 628,000-square foot, 8-story medical school building and the $270 million John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, a comprehensive center providing pediatric and obstetrical care, in downtown Buffalo. Oishei Children’s Hospital is a member of Kaleida Health and serves as the Regional Perinatal Center (RPC) for Western New York. The New York State Department of Health will redesignate all RPC’s, including the Oishei RPC, in early 2020. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) is comprised of six divisions, including general OB/GYN, gynecologic oncology, maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. A unique opportunity to build groundbreaking research programs exists within the Jacobs School. The Department educates and trains physicians from medical school to residency, fellowship, and beyond.
The Chair reports to 1) Michael Cain, MD, Vice President for Health Sciences and Dean, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo and 2) David Hughes, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Kaleida Health. The Chair is responsible for advancing the clinical, research, teaching, and community engagement missions of the Department. This leader will recruit, retain, and inspire a diverse group of faculty members. As the system-level Chief of Service for OB/GYN at Kaleida Health, this leader will oversee performance of clinical services across all appropriate sites. As President of UB|MD OBGYN, this leader will support an integrated clinical practice plan.

This leader will be an active clinician with proven administrative experience. The Chair will be capable of navigating a complex academic environment, while engaging with community OB/GYN’s and improving the health and lives of women throughout Western New York and beyond.
