The Cleveland Clinic’s Respiratory Institute announces a search for Chair, Department of Pulmonary Medicine. The Department is one of four departments within the Respiratory Institute (the other three are the Department of Critical Care Medicine, the Department of Allergy/Clinical Immunology, and the Department of Infectious Diseases). The departments reflect the ongoing rapid growth of the Respiratory Institute’s activities at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus and across its regional health system.
The Chair of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine will lead the clinical, education, and research activities related to pulmonary medicine at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus, as well as ten regional hospitals and 15 regional multi-specialty outpatient centers. Currently there are approximately 70 faculty who will have primary or joint appointments in the Department, and the goal is to recruit another 25-30 faculty in the next two to 3 years. The faculty represent a variety of models, including NIH supported investigators, academic clinician educators, and full-time clinicians. The Department maintains nationally/internationally recognized programs in virtually all areas of pulmonary medicine, including advanced and interventional bronchoscopy, lung transplantation, pulmonary hypertension, sarcoidosis, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, asthma, and COPD. The Department is heavily engaged in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. The pulmonary-critical care medicine fellowship program currently has a total of 24 fellows, and is led by an experienced program director. The fellowship program will be co-managed with the Department of Critical Care.
This represents an outstanding leadership opportunity. The ideal candidate will be recognized nationally for his/her experience and accomplishments in clinical care, teaching, research, and administration. It will be paramount that the individual posses the skills necessary to lead and grow a large and complex department with a multi-faceted mission and multiple stakeholders. The Chair will need to work closely and effectively with the Chair of Critical Care Medicine, since many faculty will have appointments in both departments. Board certification in pulmonary medicine is required. A faculty appointment commensurate with experience is available at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
Interested candidates should submit their cover letter, curriculum vitae and 3 references to:
