Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Physician I for the RSH Hurtado Health Center. This position is under the supervision of the Student Health Director and works to maintain the health and general well being of students attending the University and to assist in the retention of these students through primary care and health education activities.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: • Performs direct patient primary medical care including, such as general medical problems, routine gynecology/dermatology, minor psychiatric problems, routine orthopedics, minor surgery, and assesses the general physical, developmental and psychosocial health status of individuals. • Consults and collaborates with other health care team members. • May act as a preceptor for medical students, residents, and other healthcare professions students. • Attends scheduled meetings concerning both medical and administrative matters. Shares in evening medical coverage of student health service. • Participates in outreach to the University community as requested.
• Current knowledge of adolescent/young adult medicine. • Ability to understand and communicate in the English language. • Ability to work at a pace consistent with the health center’s needs to insure that students are served in a timely manner. • Ability to physically assist patients as necessary, may entail lifting patients, pushing wheel chairs, or carrying students who have fainted. • Manual dexterity to perform medical tasks unassisted; e.g. suturing, bimanual exams, CPR. • Ability to cope with interruptions, multiple tasks, and stress of dealing with multiple patients at a fast pace (especially during peak workload times such as flu season). • Ability to make appropriate client observations • Understanding and skill in creating and working in a diverse and inclusive environment.
• Graduation from approved medical school. • Board certification or board eligible and becomes board certified within two years of initial appointment. • Medical License registered in the State of N.J. prior to start date.
