The Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for Chief, Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. The Department of Medicine is seeking a visionary leader to advance the division’s clinical, research, and education missions.
The Chief, Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics is responsible for leading and expanding the clinical, educational, and research programs within the Division. The Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics is a newly merged academic division that includes over 60 faculty members, clinical practices in General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, teaching programs for medical students, residents, and fellows, and a well-funded extramural research program.
The Chief will be tasked with promoting excellence in clinical practice, teaching, and research, and growing the clinical care activities to meet the needs of medical education and the increasing need for general medicine, primary care, and geriatric clinicians. Additionally, the Chief will oversee outpatient and inpatient clinical activities, recruit outstanding physicians, expand outpatient services, and provide oversight and support for medical education and research within the Division. The Chief will report to the Chair of the Department of Medicine and collaborate with other division leaders and faculty members.
Candidates for the position must be certified by the ABIM, hold an MD or equivalent degree, and be at or above the Associate Professor rank. The successful candidate should be a visionary leader with experience in general medicine clinical practice oversight with a strong commitment to medical education and promoting scholarship, research, and career development. Leadership experience and mentoring skills are essential for supporting and growing the division.
Candidates should also have a significant record of accomplishment in research and the ability to recruit and mentor faculty pursuing research relevant to general medicine and geriatrics. The Chief should possess the ability to manage and develop faculty and staff across the clinical, research, and education missions of the Division.
